March |
March was another very exciting month. We did some more camping, met some new people, and visited GatorLand. GatorLand had thousands of alligators from babies to full grown adults over 15 feet long. We got to feed them turkey dogs. We had to through the food to the side of the head so they could see them. Alligators can't see directly in front of their mouth. They had a show where they could get the alligators jump out of the water using their tails to push off the bottom to grab food 4 feet above the water. |
This was very exciting, we got to see a space shuttle launch. Not only a launch but a night launch at 2:30a.m. It was dark while waiting for the launch but when the lunch started the sky was like day it was so bright. At our camp ground there was a gentleman who gave us a shortwave radio so we could hear what was going on and the countdown. The next day we went to the Kennedy Space Center to learn more about space. We saw two Imax shows about space, one was a show on the space station and the other one was on the moon. There was also a space shuttle simulation ride. It was a ride that made you feel like you are in a space shuttle. It did all the things a real shuttle would do but we got to stay on earth. There was a place called Robot scouts where we got to learn about what the robots we send to space do. The next day we went to the Kennedy Space Center again to finish the things we didn't do. We went on a bus that took us to launch pad 39 where we got to see where the shuttle went before it was launched. We also went to a building where we got to touch a real moon rock, drive little mars rovers and we had a screen that we got to see what the mars rover saw. Our third stop we got to see where they actually made the parts for the space station. While we were on the bus back to the Kennedy Space Center we drove by where the astronauts sleep before the go to space. When we got back to the Kennedy Space Center we went to meet a real astronaut, his name was Joan Fabian who went into space two times and one of those times he went with Sally Ride the first American woman in space. We also went to the astronaut hall of fame where we got to do some ride simulations and see the astronauts that went to space before today. At the Kennedy Space Center there was a real shuttle that is no longer in use that we could go inside to see where the astronauts stay. |
This month a special holiday came early... Easter! While we were staying in a camp ground just outside of Fort Lauderdale we celebrated Easter. Since we were in our trailer and because everything was locked the Easter Bunny hid all the eggs around the trailer and the van. Inside the eggs were beads that came from a bigger package. We also got two packages of string. With the beads and the string we made bookmarkers and sold them to people around the campground and both my sister and I made $20 each. |
While we were staying in Florida we decided to go spend a few weeks in the Florida Keys. When we went to Key West we went to the southern most part of the United States. While we were there we went to the Key West visitors center. In there we learnt lots about coral reefs, currents and many other things. Also in there was a model of a submarine that we could go inside and watch videos of under the ocean. Another place half way down the Keys we went to a park and played in the water that was warm and we just splashed around and snorkled. We didn't see fish but we saw lots of plants and rock with lots of definition on them. On our way back through the Keys we stopped in Key Largo and went snorkeling again and this time we saw so many fish I couldn't count all of them. We saw lots of different colors, We saw some with orange skin and pink dots, we saw some black we saw some green we saw some red and blue striped and we also saw some with all the colors of the rainbow on them. I had a FABULAS time in the Keys! |
