Lake tahoe times |
Our adventure to Lake Tahoe started with an early morning bus ride. It took us 8 hours from Las Vegas to Lake Tahoe because our driver took a wrong turn which added an extra 2 hours. Once we arrived at Lake Tahoe, we settled ourselves into different cabins. Then we had a big group meeting about the rules and safety procedures. After that we played group games in the main hall and then settled in for the night. At camp, we did wood working where everyone made a key holder or a bird house. I made a key holder. They taught us about Marijuana and the dangers of how it harms your body. We played many group games but the most fun game, in my opinion, was freeze tag, 50 kids against 11 leaders. When the kids were It, it was a very short game for the leaders and when the leaders were It the game went on forever until they surrendered. We also went to the beach everyday. One day we got to go kayaking and on another day we got to jump off the dock into the cold water. During Free Time they put string and other craft materials out and we got to make what ever we wanted to. We also got to make water rockets in groups of 6 with one leader in each group. The leader in my group was Chris, he is a mad scientist. He wanted our rocket to go up in the air, let out a parachute and then explode! We got our rocket up in the air, our parachute opened, and no explosion, just water spurting out and getting us wet. One of the days we had Military day. We played different types of tag with Frisbees. There was also a rope about four feet off the ground that we had to get everybody over without touching the rope. We could only use our team and a board about 6 inches wide and 4 feet long to help us get over it. We had the BEST time, we beat the other team by just over 6 seconds. There also was a spider web of string and we had to get everybody through the holes without touching the string. Once we put someone through a hole, we couldn't use that hole again. Another game was we guided a partner through an obstacle course without them stepping on anything. The tough part was they were blind folded. After we did all of those activities, the military people set up a rock wall, entirely made out of car parts, for us to go rock climbing. I got to the top, there was a button to push and it sounded like it was a car horn. On one of the nights, we did a duct tape fashion show. There was a group of 3 or 4 kids with one leader. I turned into a fly swatter and the other girl in my group was a queen bee. On the last night we had a party. There was popcorn, water, fruit punch and root beer floats that we could help ourselves to. The next morning we packed up and took the bus home. This time it was only 6 hours because the bus driver knew where he was going. |
