The Hemmings’ Family Adventure

February 2008

29 days in the Dominican Republic

Hola! Oh My! What a wonderful time we had in the Dominican Republic. We spent 29 days in an apartment (owned by my sister’s family and in-laws) in a cute little town called Cabarete. It is about 40 miles from Puerto Plata on the North Shore. If you have ever wanted to Kite Surf, this is the place. WOW! The sea of colours out on the water some days was impressive. The speed, the agility, the height...OH MY! Not for the faint of heart. It was brilliant to watch them all, right from beginners to advanced. Always something to see.

In the apartment complex where we stayed, there are about 25 apts in total. People from all over the world own there and rent them out (if you are interested in renting there just let me know...I have an inside to some great deals–LOL). We met people from France, Scotland, New Brunswick, Quebec (my French got so much better), New York, Florida, Ontario and Chile. The town itself is filled with people from all over the world. What an experience!

We went down to help get the apartment rental ready, you know put up some pictures, buy some furniture, stuff like that. What an experience that was. Like, I had to buy those white plastic shelving for the closets, WD40 and stuff like that. Well I will tell you, not having a great command of the Spanish language made it so much FUN! I mimed my way through an entire hardware store experience, giggling the entire time.

We learned so much about the Dominican culture, their history, their farming, and their people. It was amazing to expose the girls to that type of environment. They learned foreign currency, third world economics and they had an hour of Spanish lessons almost each day. (Okay so it was from the Scottish speaking man that lived next door, but hey, he spoke 6 languages he was a brilliant teacher.) Thanks Steven!

The weather was tropical, it would rain in the AM and by the time we were ready for our day it would be about 25 C (that is about 80 F). We spent the days at the pool, at the beach and shopping for the apartment. We played with the other families in the complex and made some wonderful lifelong friends.

We visited the Cabarete Caverns, swan in an underground pool (yes, in one of the caves), we rode to the top of  sky tram in Puerto Plata to walk the gardens, we shopped in the outdoor market in Puerto Plata,  I shopped in Santiago (my hardware store experience), we visited Playa Dorado, Sosua Beach and Dywayne and the girls went to the 27 Charcos (www.27charcos.com).

Please know that I do not tell you all this to brag, but only to inspire. It is my dream that one day, all our friends and family are living the exact life they have always wanted. If you want to travel the world, you can. If you want to travel only once a year, you can. If you want to live in a better house, please do so.

It is our hope that our story will inspire you to be the best that you can possibly be, to live the life that you truly deserve and to dream big dreams.  Anyone want to join us in Hawaii next winter?

Thank you Isagenix for the vehicle to live out our dreams. We are truly blessed!

Traveling update

Wow can you believe it is February already? We have been on our adventure now for over 6 months. Feels like just yesterday we were waving goodbye in Edmonton.

Many of you have been asking for an update as to where we are going next and when or if we will be through your city. So here is what we are thinking.

We are in Florida until Early April. The head up the East Coast through Savannah, GA, Washington, D.C., Atlantic City, NJ, New York, NY, through Maine and then into Canada.

We will be touching each Canadian capital city and any other that are recommended to us.

This is where you all come in. We need your advice. We would like you to recommend places for us to visit. We are willing to go off the beaten path for something fun and exciting. People we must meet, places we must see, restaurants we must eat at, stuff like that. Share with us your experience so we may have an ever richer experience of our own. What do you say, want to help us and tell us where to go?

Text Box: We are so happy and grateful now that our family is getting closer and stronger each day. We are learning and growing so much together. We are able to share openly our joys and our sadness. We are so happy and grateful that we have taken this dream and turned it into an amazing experience that we will treasure for our entire lives.

Please forward this newsletter to anyone who you feel might be inspired

~ the primary mode of transport is the “Moto-Concho”, small motorbikes. EVERYONE rides them...we even saw a baby cow (maybe about 4 months old) being carried down the highway with 3 other people on one tiny motorbike!!

~ The bigger your automobile the more “right to the road” you have.

~ Pedestrians? What pedestrians?

~ Drama skills are necessary for those of us whose Spanish needs some work!

Things that make us smile while in the Dominican Republic.

Leadership calls

WOW! We have been adopted by Susan Sly’s team. She is a Million dollar earner with Isagenix AND she has co created more 6 figure earners than any other leader in Isagenix.

Every weekday morning at 7 PST (10EST) there is a 20 min. leadership call. You will be inspired to move forward with your Isagenix day. Everyone is welcome.

Email me and let me know that you will be joining us and I will send you the contact information.

The Power of the Pause
I was reminded this past week about how powerful “the Pause” is. No, not the button on the DVD it is the pause in our communication. I put the “Power of the Pause” to work.

With each new person I spoke to about Isagenix, when I was asked a question, I paused. I did not jump in. I waited. I paused. I gave a moment for the question to sink in and I have to say it was powerful. Not only was I clearer on my response but many times they answered their own question!

I know that as a teacher I used to ask a question then wait about 5 seconds before I allowed anyone to answer. That gave the time for the kids that needed to process longer. I guess I forgot that even adults sometimes need longer to process.

So I got to thinking, the “Power of the Pause” and listening, go hand in hand. Hmmm. Who knew? Try it, you might just find it works with ALL communication.

Where to after Canada?

We are looking at Hawaii as our next destination. I met a couple from “the Big Island” last weekend in LA, they own a taxi company and they are willing to help us find an apartment to rent.

I love my life!

Our February Isagenix Business Update

So here we are in February and the Isagenix Celebration is only 6 months away. That may seem like along time for comes of you, but really it will get here before your know it. For those of you on the AM leadership calls, this will be a repeat, but it is such a good idea I wanted everyone to do it. Whether you are going to Celebration or not, I’d like you to right yourself a letter or a journal entry or a thank you note, whatever, and I want you to date it August 6, 2008. You will write it in the present tense (as if it is that day right now) and you will describe in detail what the last 6 months looked like for you. Imagine what you would truly like your life to be and then put it into words. Imagine the possibilities. Imagine where your life is going and the exciting news along the way.

Mine begins like this….

WOW! We just wrapped up celebration and what a blast! My goal was to get 30 Yummy Mommies to attend and we had a group of 43! Everyone said we were the life of the party. So full of energy, so on target with our dreams. Who would have thought our team would have THREE 6 figure earners already! OMG! And the 4th is so close. We were honoured on stage for being the fasted growing team! We looked great up there in our matching shirts! Everyone was inspired to create the lives our team is creating….

I'm thrilled to have found Isagenix for many reasons. First of all I now feel fantastic, not the tired, cranky, sick, have to miss work because I had to lay in a dark room and shut everyone out ,feeling frustrated because my pants didn't fit anymore, kind of person I was before Isagenix. I signed up with Isagenix last Feb. because I wanted to do the business side of it. Naturally I used the product and there has been no looking back for me. I lose 13 lbs. and 21 inches and I am now making residual income to add to my meagre pension. I've had the added blessing of being able to share this exciting experience with many people who have had some pretty life changing results. Thanks Barbilee for sharing Isagenix with me and setting me on this truly wonderful path.

It is time for all to stand and cheer for the doer, the achiever —      the one who recognizes the challenges and does something about it.

Note from Barbilee: Darlene visited us in the DR. She had never really travelled outside of North America before and for her first trip out she came to the DR, alone! What an inspiration she is to all of us who are “thinking” about doing something! Just do it already, you will be glad you did. Right Darlene? 3 cheers for Darlene!
